Governor
The governor of North Carolina is the head of government of the U.S. state of North Carolina. The governor's powers and responsibilities are prescribed by the state constitution and by law. They serve as North Carolina's chief executive and are tasked by the constitution with faithfully carrying out the laws of the state. They are ex officio commander-in-chief of the North Carolina National Guard and director of the state budget. The office has the authority to appoint executive branch officials, judges, and members of boards and commissions. Governors are also empowered to grant pardons and veto legislation.

State Representative & Senator
The North Carolina Legislative Branch makes laws for the state. It is composed of the Senate and the House of Representatives, which together form the General Assembly. The Legislature meets biennially, and all members are elected for two-year terms.
The House of Representatives consists of 120 members who serve a term of two years. The presiding officer is the Speaker of the House, who is elected by the members for a two-year term. The Speaker's duties include maintaining order in the House and appointing members to committees.

The Senate consists of 50 members who serve a term of two years. The Lieutenant Governor is President of the Senate and presides over the daily session. The Lieutenant Governor is elected by NC citizens for a four-year term and has no vote in the Senate except to break a tie.
